UPES joins hands with GitHub India to prepare next-gen software developers
As part of this unique academia-industry collaboration, UPES’ students will get free access to GitHub Enterprise Server, GitHub Enterprise Cloud, and 100+ industry-standard tools, which will elevate their experience in working directly with the industry experts
It is an undisputed fact that technology has helped economies all over the world to stay afloat and survive during the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdowns that followed. From e-commerce to e-government, video calls, online learning, remote working, mobile payment and social media, technology came to our rescue when it was needed the most.
Resultantly, we are witnessing an accelerated adoption of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), Robotics and Automation, and Blockchain Technology, leading to the demand of skilled professionals who can work with these technologies.
And UPES is leading the charge in making sure that its students and faculties stay ahead of the skill curve. The University signed an MoU with leading software development platform GitHub India, to provide next-generation software tools to its students and teachers.
GitHub India Private Limited is home to an interconnected community of data scientists, app developers, researchers, teachers, and government technocrats who come together to share ideas and collaborate on new developments. With more than 50 million users, 3 million organisations, and over 100 million code repos, GitHub is enabling this community to meet developer needs and securing the world’s software together.
As part of the agreement, UPES will be launching a GitHub Campus Program that will enable teaching with industry-standard tools across all the departments at the campus. The program will also give students free access to GitHub Enterprise Server, GitHub Enterprise Cloud, and 100+ industry-standard tools, which will elevate their experience in working directly with the industry experts. The program will provide technical tools, training for faculty members, and will help technical student communities grow on campus. There will also be an opportunity to assist start-ups by providing access to tools and resources.
Commenting on the collaboration, Dr. Manish Prateek, Dean, School of Computer Sciences, UPES said, “The fourth industrial revolution has seen the emergence of new technologies which has made it imperative for students to upgrade their skills. As India moves to becoming a digital economy, learning coding, and upgraded programming languages is required to keep pace with global trends. UPES has always been the pioneer in providing a holistic ecosystem to its students enabled by modern-tech knowledge and learning. The academia-industry collaboration with GitHub is a step forward in this direction to create an integrated education setup at the campus and provide students access to next-gen software tools.”
The students and teachers will also be able to work in an integrated manner with the GitHub Classroom: a teacher-facing tool where educators can organize and manage assignments, collaborate with teaching assistants, and invite students in a single course.
Mr. Maneesh Sharma, Country Manager, GitHub India said, “Software is pervasive in today’s world. We are extremely delighted to be partnering with UPES to help give students and academic staff access to the tools they need to shape the next generation of software development. Students will have the opportunity to learn from some of the greatest software developers from across the globe and they will be able to equip themselves with skills that will help them with their careers. The partnership will also lay a foundation that enables software professors to effectively impart coding as a skill to students.”
