How Political Science Shapes Our Worldview: Practical Values

Today, our existence is shaped by a fast-paced and intricate world that is constantly evolving. As humans, we are compelled to gain an understanding of the reasons behind and the mechanism of these changes to navigate our daily lives effectively. One discipline that can provide us with a comprehensive insight into this realm is Political Science. This captivating field of study allows us to delve into the dynamics of human interactions, explore the structures and systems we have established to govern ourselves and grapple with concepts such as nationality, statehood, citizenship, power, policies, and diplomacy. By examining these topics, we can develop a more profound comprehension of the world around us and make informed decisions that can positively impact our lives and those of others.

The field of political science provides a comprehensive understanding of the functioning of governments, the formulation and implementation of policies, and the ways in which political institutions and processes shape societies. Through the study of political behaviour, ideologies, and systems, political scientists offer valuable insights into the dynamics of power and decision-making. In today’s world, which is marked by unprecedented global challenges, the importance of political science cannot be overstated. From climate change and economic inequality to geopolitical tensions and public health crises, there is an urgent need for informed analysis and effective policymaking. Political science research provides a means of addressing such challenges. This understanding is critical for navigating complex political landscapes and devising strategies for effective governance.

All of us have heard about Brexit, which refers to Britain’s decision to exit the European Union. The decision to leave the EU was mainly driven by concerns about immigration, the economy, and anti-establishment politics. To implement this decision, the government conducted a referendum in which people were asked to vote in favour of or against leaving the EU. By involving the people who elected them, the government demonstrated a commitment to democracy and transparency in decision-making.

The results of the referendum showed that the majority of people in the UK chose to leave the EU, and the government acted accordingly. However, the decision to leave the EU has had significant consequences for the country. Currently, the UK is grappling with its worst economic crisis, with high rates of unemployment and inflation affecting the people. In addition to these challenges, the UK has also set an example by electing an Indian origin Prime Minister, which is a significant milestone in the country’s history. The study of political science is a study of such interesting events across the world.

The discipline of Political Science has proven to be an indispensable tool in helping us to better comprehend the root causes and outcomes of various phenomena that exist in the world around us. Through the lens of Political Science, we can gain a deeper understanding of complex issues such as poverty, inequality, power dynamics, and war, among others. By exploring these topics and examining the ways in which political institutions and policies can either exacerbate or ameliorate these issues, we are able to gain valuable insight into how we can work towards creating a more just and equitable society.

Furthermore, the study of human rights has played a crucial role in identifying effective strategies for promoting and defending fundamental rights. Through rigorous research and analysis, we can gain a better understanding of the ways in which various policies and approaches can impact the lives of individuals and communities. By leveraging this knowledge, we can work towards implementing measures that are designed to protect and promote human rights, thereby creating a more just and equitable world for all.

Keeping in mind all the above factors, it is only fair to say that political science discipline is critical in addressing and resolving global concerns such as governance, war, power asymmetry, climate change, inequality, and human rights.
