A stint at Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation, Japan, for UPES student
After clearing two rounds of rigorous interviews spanning over a week, Utsav Nangalia was selected to attend the Freshman Trainee Program at Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation (MITAC) in Japan
Utsav Nangalia, a student of B.Tech Avionics, Class of 2015-2019, was shortlisted to attend the Freshman Trainee Program at Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation (MITAC), Japan, as an Avionics System Design Engineer. Says an ecstatic Utsav, “My mentors always taught me to look at both sides of the equation- to listen more and speak less as you learn more when you listen than when you speak.” After clearing the two rounds of rigorous interviews spread out over a week, he was finally selected to attend the Freshman Trainee Program.
He vividly recalls his experience at Mitsubishi. Says he, “I often say this to my colleagues at Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation that my journey has been that of a day’s climb after I joined UPES. I like to think that everything that came my way during the last four years of my college life has a share in me reaching where I am today and it is just a start as it is a long road ahead.”
Although he was excited about studying aircraft, he also admits being scared at first. “It was a combined decision of my father and I to pursue Aerospace Engineering. The sole reason I chose UPES was because it had almost the same curriculum as IITs.”
Utsav was also a part of the winning team at Stephenville, Texas, as part of Team Astral. Says he, “Nothing beats the victory at Tarleton State University (TSU) in Stephenville when Team Astral became the first team from India to win NASA’s CANSAT competition and I was proudly hosting the Indian flag. UPES gives opportunity to those who deserve it and I am immensely thankful for it.”
He further talks about the support of faculty in Aerospace Department where he was able to get a clear understanding of the concepts in his domain. Says Utsav, “With the help of our faculty in-charge, Dr. Sudhir Kumar Chaturvedi, and Head of the Department, Dr. Sudhir Joshi, I was able to get practical knowledge of aviation at Indore Airport and Genser Aerospace Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru. These experiences added immensely to my knowledge which I could later use at the Freshman Trainee Program.”
Utsav sends a heartfelt message to all of his juniors and freshly enrolled students about engineering. “As I look at both sides of the equation, I can compare the differences which I believe would be of great use to future engineers. I would advise you to find something which you can be devoted to emotionally, mentally and physically and give everything you have to be the best. With the changes in education policy of India, I think the flexibility which was required, exists today. Try to cross-pollinate your interest in different segments whether it is art, education, food, language, music or sports. Try connecting the dots in things which you like. Maintain a disciplined lifestyle and if you can do that, you are no less than a Japanese Samurai,” he signs off.
