In an interview with Mansha Dhingra, Prof. Patra talks about the career prospects for Computer Science graduates as the application of software and its dependency at various walks of life increases.

2. What does the future of Computer Science look like for job aspirants?
As per the recent reports, India has around 123 crores (1.23 billion) of Aadhaar digital biometric identity cards, 121 crore (1.21 billion) mobile users, 56 crores (560 million) internet users, 44.6 crores (446 million) smartphones, and 25 crore people on social networks. Every minute 7600 IoT devices are connected to the internet, soon to reach 30 billion such devices.
With every business and organisation going digital, the IT sector today is a booming field as compared to other sectors and there is a huge demand for Computer Science engineers and programmers. Computer Science graduates have plenty of options to work in IT companies in departments such as design, development, assembly, manufacture, and maintenance. Working as a programmer, web developer or an e-commerce specialist, can also be lucrative career options.
In today’s world, programming has expanded into other fields such as Mechanical and Electronics, thereby, increasing the demand. The advent of robotics and Artificial Intelligence has given a boost to the demand and scope of placements in the computer science domain.
